Jeff Newberry enjoys a varied career as a conductor, music supervisor, music director, composer, orchestrator, arranger, sound designer, and educator working in theatre, concert, and community spaces. 

 

As conductor and music director: Disney’s THE LION KING (Mirvish), BILLY ELLIOT, FINDING NEVERLAND (Drayton Entertainment), COME FROM AWAY, A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, (Capitol Theatre). As Music Supervisor and Orchestrator: REZ GAS (Cale Crowe/Genevieve Adam), THE GREAT(ER) MAPLE SYRUP HEIST (Ellen Denny). As composer and sound designer: THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS (Shaw Festival), SOMEWHERE (The Grand), CHRISTMASTOWN, PRAIRIE NURSE (Capitol Theatre). As a composer, his choral music is performed by a growing number of school, community, and university ensembles in Canada and the United States.

 

Jeff taught high school music in the Toronto District School Board for 10 years and now teaches Musical Theatre part-time at Sheridan College. He has also taught at York University in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance, and Design and Randolph College for the Performing Arts. He has won grants to write and record new music from the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and York University. He holds a Bachelor of Music (University of Toronto), a Bachelor of Education (Queen’s University), an Honours Specialist in Vocal Music (OISE) and a Master of Education (York University).
